The 8th DUG Permian Basin conference and exhibition drew more than 2,700 attendees and 250 exhibitors to the Fort Worth Convention Center this week, exceeding attendance projections by 10 percent. The three-day event wrapped up this afternoon after delivering in-depth, data-rich sessions on Permian Basin resource development. Barry Haest, Hart Energy Vice President of Events, noted the conference marked a milestone.
“It is exciting that our DUG Permian Basin conference continues to grow after eight years,” he said. “We broke the attendance record for this event and we look forward to increasing next year to keep pace with the sustained surge in drilling activity and Permian Basin production growth.”
Retired Gen. David H. Petraeus appeared to be a huge draw for attendees to this year’s event. The former director of CIA addressed the DUG luncheon crowd on Wednesday, answering a lightning round of questions about the global energy industry and other foreign affairs.
A host of oil and gas industry experts addressed the conference, including Pioneer Natural Resources Chairman and CEO Scott Sheffield. Pioneer is the leading operator in the Permian Basin and holds close to 900,000 gross acres in the Midland Basin. Attendees also heard from Athlon Energy CEO Bob Reeves, Laredo Petroleum President and COO Jay Still, Approach Resources President and CEO J., Ross Craft, Apache EVP and COO John J. Christmann, and other leading producers. Overall, the companies represented by DUG Permian Basin speakers control over 5 million lease-hold acres.
Wall Street Journal writer Gregory Zuckerman wrapped up the conference with highlights of his book, “The Frackers,” which showcases stories of the shale revolution innovators.
The next conference in Hart Energy’s popular series will be DUG East set for June 3-5 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attendees are already marking their calendars for the 2015 DUG Permian Basin set for May 19-21, 2015 also at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
