Balanced Website Design

Balanced website design is something that all web designers need to think about when creating new websites. The balance of a website makes the site easy to navigate through, more entertaining for the site’s visitors and more engaging. When properly balanced a website will naturally attract more visitors and generate more business for the website’s owner. The elements that contribute to the balance of a website include attractiveness, usefulness, functionality, and user-friendliness.

User-Friendliness in Website Design

The most important element of a well balanced website design is its user-friendliness. User-friendliness refers to how easy it is for a visitor to navigate their way through the site. When a site is easy for the user to use, they will not only stay on the site longer, but they will be better able to find the information or products that they want to buy or use. They will also become repeat users. Highly user-friendly website designs will be logically organized, they will have easy to read fonts, they will have help menus (as appropriate) and they will have simple product or information menus located on each page. Users should never have to figure out how to extract information from a site. It should be easy and obvious for them to obtain what they initially came to the website for in the first place.

Designing a Functional Website

The functionality of a website refers to the site’s ability to help the owner meet his or her goals. For example, if the site is designed to sell products the functionality of the site will be based on the site’s ability to sell those products. This means that highly functional websites will be set up so that they guide visitors to do something (a call to action), whether it is place an order, request more information, or simply return to the site multiple times. To create a functional website the designer needs to focus on creating pathways from each element of the site back to the desired endpoint, such as an order form, an information request form, or ultimately the “money” page.

Usefulness of a Website

The third element of a well balanced website design is usefulness. Usefulness is a term that relates to a customer’s perspective of the site. To be considered useful the content needs to focus on keywords, topics, and tools that are important to the site’s target demographic. In order to select useful content it is important for the web designer to understand their target demographic and what they want and need from the website. This may mean adding text content produced by experts or it may mean attaching a calculator to the site so the customer can estimate how much of a certain product they need to order. Usefulness and user-friendliness are very closely related. In most cases, the usefulness of a site is completely determined by how user friendly it is for the customer. If a customer finds the site confusing, irritating, slow, or too technical then most likely they are going to leave…regardless of how useful the information on the sight might be to them. They will simply go elsewhere to locate the information or products in an easier manner.

Attractiveness of a Website

The final element of a well balanced website design is its attractiveness. Attractiveness is again a characteristic that is judged by the customer. Attractiveness refers to things like the color choices for the website, the graphics used to illustrate the website, and the website’s general layout. An attractive website will utilize graphic elements that are interesting but not overwhelming. As a business owner, selecting an appropriate designer for your site is critical. One good resource for finding top notch designers is to utilize the Web Service Providers Directory located on Web Design Ideas Blog. Creating a Balanced Website Design

In order to attract customers and keep their attention, a website needs to be well balanced. This means that the site needs to be easy to navigate, it needs to guide the visitor to a pre-determined endpoint or endpoints, it needs to contain information and tools that the customer is interested in, and it needs to be visually attractive. If a website has been designed with these things in mind, then they will not only naturally attract more customers, but they will also help guide the customers to do what the website’s owner wants them to do, be it place an order, visit a money page, or request more information that may ultimately lead to a new customer or sale.
