The Return of Google Authorship…maybe?

The-Return-of-Google-Authorship…maybe The Return of Google Authorship…maybe? You know that I often speak at SEO conferences and shows and I can’t remember if I’ve ever spoken about Eric Enge before of Stone Temple SEO, but I should have. A couple of years back, at the big national Toronto SMX SEO show, I spoke there on Google Authorship and in an earlier seminar, I heard Eric speak on something else.

I have no idea now on the topic of that seminar, but I knew this — that this guy bloody KNOWS SEO. His throwaway adlibs and impromptu comments on all things Google were enough to let me know that I was learning big time.

Add to that, that after that show a bit, I found out that the “leader” of the whole Google Authorship item that was being discussed by us all was Mark Traphagen and if you google him you’ll see what I mean, eh!

Add to that mix, that Google sort of “short-circuited” the whole Google Authorship thing where they attempted to tie content to the author of same and that was a shock to me and others in the SEO world…but then Google does what it wants, eh!

So…today’s post is — maybe not?

Here’s how Mark and Eric intro’d their piece —

“Google Authorship was originally a way for online authors and publishers to link their content to their Google+ profiles so that Google could more readily associate their content with them. The added benefit of this experiment was that authors were given a rich snippet. A rich snippet provided the author’s image and byline and appeared directly in the search results.

In mid-2014, however, Google stopped showing Authorship results. After a recent announcement by a top Googler that site owners should keep the rel=author tags on their sites, could Authorship be making a comeback? In this episode of Here’s Why, Mark & Eric give you their predictions about the future of Google Authorship…”

As you can see the intro tells us the background, but then DO click this link to read more about the whole Authorship items…I did.

And don’t forget that you can watch their “rock star” video too!

And again, I learned more!
